October 3, 2008
Two different brush fires kept the Walnut Hill station of Escambia County Fire-Rescue busy Friday afternoon.
The first fire was reported about 1:30 Friday afternoon in a pasture or field behind home and farm buildings in the 1500 block of Highway 97A, between Arthur Brown Road and Corley Road. The fire was reported to be burning about two acres were firmen arrived from the Walnut Hill station The fire was reported to be under control at about 2:10.
The second was reported about 3:00 on Nokomis Road just east of Highway 97. Firefighters were able to extinguish most of the fire on the ground, but at least four tall trees were burning well above ground level. For that reason, the Florida Division of Forestry was called to assist. Firemen were on scene at that fire until just after 5:00 Friday afternoon.
No structures were damaged by either fire, and there were no injuries.
