Northview’s Head Coach Recognized For Exceptional Sportsmanship
September 22, 2008
Northview High School and Cody Keene, head football coach, have been recognized by the Florida High School Athletic Association for Exceptional Sportsmanship.
Exceptional Sportsmanship reports are submitted to the FHSAA for acts that go “beyond orginary expectations”.
“I had the pleasure of officiating a game on Friday (9/12/08) that was on of the most enjoyable experiences of my 30 year offication career in high school sports,” wrote Bruce M. Breegle who served as the head linesman referee at Northview’s game at Chipley just over a week ago. Breegle said that Keene repeatedly referred to him as “sir” and was polite, much unlike many other high school head coaches.
“He was never critical or demeaning and always pleasant,” Breegle wrote. “This would be my pick for a sportmanship award for the year!”

I read the comment about Coach Keene not having any regard for anyone other than athletes. And I, from experience, KNOW that is NOT true. My daughter does not have one athletic bone in her body [bless her heart, she gets it from me] and she loves Coach Keene to death. And he has ALWAYS been more than kind and pleasant with her. After all, he is a COACH….and that is basically what we pay him for…. to COACH our athletes. And i dont believe that the nomination came from the students, it came from a man that called a ballgame that is looking in from the “outside”…..and he did see what he thought he did. A TRUE gentleman.
I have not seen the attitude from the Coach that shows me that he deserves such an award, i feel kids at the school should pick a better role model to look up to rather than a person who has low regard for anyone who is not athletic and does not fit his mold for athletic students. Very Bad decision from the athletic association!
Keep Up the good work Coach Keene! You are the best.=)
Keep up the good work Coach Keene! Jesus shines through you, it is evident by this article, and because I see Him in you at church!
This should be the performance of all school officials.
We are teaching our athletes how to win but we don’t always teach them how to behave.
