Authories Seek Answers After Pit Bull Is Dragged Behind Truck For A Mile

September 4, 2008

Dozens of construction workers on Highway 113 north of Flomaton watched in horror Tuesday afternoon as men in a pickup truck dragged a dog on the highway for more than a mile.

Witnesses say they saw an objected being dragged behind a pickup with a rope about 6 p.m. Tuesday along Alabama Highway 113. They realized that the object was a pit bull dog.

The truck stopped along with a red car. Several males exited the two vehicles and cut the rope loose from the truck. They left the bleeding dog alone in the middle of the road. The men got back into the car and truck and drove around the dog  north toward I-65. The truck was described by witnesses as a late-model, black, four-door pickup.

The dog collapsed after dragging itself to the side of the road. That’s where the  construction workers untangled the rope and attempted to help the dog.

The dog, nicknamed “Sam”, was transported to Atmore Animal Hospital where it was later euthanized.

Anyone with any information about the crime is asked to call the Humane Society of Escambia County, Alabama, at (251) 867-6860 or their local law enforcement agency. A reward is expected to be offered.

Photos of the injured dog were released Wednesday afternoon by the Humane Society. WARNING: The photos are extremely graphic and may be disturbing to some readers. To view the photos, click here.

It hurts my heart to see how much suffering this poor dog went through. The only comfort I have is knowing that it’s misery is over through humane euthenasia and that it has crossed The Rainbow Bridge into Heaven where it is whole and healthy again with God. I believe that with all my heart. I had to to hug my own dogs when I read this story. I hope that the people that hurt this dog are caught and brought to justice, but if not on this earth… then one day for sure. God will be their final judge and jury.

The Worst of humankind – these men do not deserve civilized punishment. The terror, pain and agonizing death suffered by this innocent dog deserves the SAME punishment for these disgusting “men”. Why doesn’t law enforcement ck. out more situations involving Pit Bulls. We all know what these horrid men do to them….causing them to have no chance in life, more often being killed in the government killing machines of so-called shelters. There is no shelter for “Man’s Best Friends” in Alabama.

This is absolutely horrible. How could someone do that? I hope that they catch these sick people and do the same thing to them. Poor Sam, at least he’s in a better place now. :(
