Jean Webb, Former Ernest Ward Staffer, Held Book Signing
August 9, 2008
Jean Webb, a former teacher and administrator at Ernest Ward High School in Walnut Hill, held a book signing Friday. In the end, the books were all sold and many friends were together sharing stories of their days as Golden Eagles.
Webb signed copies of her new book “Feet of Clay” at the main branch of the First National Bank of Atmore Friday afternoon.
Set in Richmond, VA, and Mobile during the 1880’s, “Feet of Clay” is a family saga, a historical romance, a murder mystery, a courtroom drama and a study of human behavior all rolled into one.
“There are no perfect heroes here, only men with feet of clay,” she said of her book. “They have been wronged: They have done wrong, but are honorable men with all too many human flaws.”
Webb, who spent 35 years as an English teacher and administrator at Ernest Ward High School, is currently a member of the Wetumpka Fine Arts Club and the Episcopal Church. Her interests include reading, writing, and following sports…especially football and basketball. She has four children: Letha, Rick, Jean, and Pellar. She now resides near Wetumpka, Alabama.

Congratulations Mrs. Webb, it is wonderful to see you are still accomplishing your goals. I am an EWHS graduate of 1982 and I was very proud to have you as my teacher. I am looking forward to reading your newest book.
Wow. You guys are so nice! Mrs. Webb is my grandmother and I thought I might look up her book on Google. I didn’t know she’d been a teacher for that long!!! Pete (Pellar) is my uncle and Jean is my mom. I’m going to ask her if she recognizes these names. Plus, I’ll ask Pete too.
I graduated from Flomaton High School in 1954. Mrs Webb was my english teacher. She also was our drama coach. I will always remember our play we put on that year. I was so glad to see you had written a book. I love to pass the time reading. I know I am going to enjoy it .Tknaks again Mrs. Webb for your time and patience with a bunch of teenagers who didn’t think they needed to know about verbs and nouns.
Congratulation Mrs. Webb on your signing, you were the principal when I was in school. Good Job !
Congrats Ms. Webb! It’s nice and pretty cool to have been taught English by a famous author. With love and fond memories.. Mike McKay, EWHS class of ‘76
I’m so proud of Mrs. Webb. She was my English teacher at Ernest Ward. One of my favorite teacher at Ernest Ward. I grew up in school with her son Pellar. Pellar and I played basketball at Ernest Ward. May God bless you even more.
A book I don’t want to put downbefore finishing it. I was “JO” in the EWHS production of “LITTLE WOMEN” 1961. Mrs Webb was our director/producer. Learned a lot from her direction of the play. Enjoyed being w/ her last Sunday. Thank you JJ Webb, you’ll never know how much you influnced my life.
SO SORRY I DID NOT MAKE IT TO THE SIGNING….VERY PROUD FOR YOU.. I REALLY THOUGHT YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN THE PRESIDENT THO…YOU WERE SO WISE AT EWHS…YOU TAUGHT US (MOSTLY US GIRLS ) MORE THAN LITERATURE. YOU TRIED TO TEACH US ABOUT LIFE…GUESS I DIDN’T LISTEN VERY WELL…AS USUAL ! CONGRATULATIONS MRS. WEBB. YOU WERE THE “COOLEST TEACHER” EVER..I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU !!!
How exciting to attend a book signing from someone you have known since your teens! You were a very important person during my high school days. You taught us so much more than what the course requirements were. I acquired my love for reading from you. The method of teaching you used left many “pearls” of knowledge imbedded that surfaced as the need arose.
Thank you for all you gave to us and for being the kind loving person you are.
Class of 60 at EWHS
GOOD JOB MRS. WEBB!!
Thank you Mrs. Webb for once again setting the example. Congratulations on this special occassion, you have been such a blessing to all those who had the pleasure of knowing you as our teacher. The ability to put what is in the heart into words is truly a gift. The ability to pass the enthusiasm, knowledge and love of words on to others is greatly appreciated by each of your students. I am looking forward to the fall air when leaves are burning and a good hot cup of tea is brewing, cozy slippers, warm housecoat and a good book, what more could anyone need? I’ve already picked my bookmark. With all the best regards.
I graduated from Ernest Ward in 1968 and Mrs. Webb was my favorite teacher. I have not read her book yet but I am looking forward to reading it.
We just had our 40th year class reunion and her name came up often. she may never know what an influence she made on so many of her students. I would like to think kids of today have the experience of such a Great teacher and to say a Thank You to her for being so” Cool” to a bunch of kids.
