Fire Destroys Cottage Hill Trailer

Several North Escambia fire departments responded to a trailer fire early Wednesday morning near Cottage Hill.

The fire, which was reported about 1:20 a.m., destroyed the mobile home near Stacey Road and Highway 95A.

The exact cause of the fire is under investigation. The State Fire Marshal was called to the scene just after 3:00 a.m.

The Cantonment Volunteer Fire Department, Molino Volunteer Fire Department and Ensley Volunteer Fire Department responded. In addition, the Beulah Volunteer Fire Department was alerted to standby status.

    I hate to disagree with sparky, but I think the distance away from this structure that was ” destroyed” by the fire bolsters the argument to try to consolidate city services. I’m not even going to get started on the insurance savings that one would recieve from having a department respond that only recently lost their class one rating, a coveted iso rating by any department. Not to worry though,recent budget cuts have brought minimum manning to dangerous levels and even helping nearby departments with mutual aid is putting city tax payers at risk by not having their trucks inside city limits.

    There have been arguments that the north end should be made part of the City of Pensacola for better services such as fire protection. I think the amount of fire departments that responded to this disaster belies that argument.
