Thunderstorms Cause Minor Problems; Fire Alarm At School

Thunderstorms moving through North Escambia caused minor problems early Friday evening.

The Walnut Hill Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at Bratt Elementary School during the storm. The alarm system reported a possible fire in a portable classroom outside the school, but it was a false alarm likely cause lightning.

Several homes across the area were left without power for up to an hour due to the storms.

Power lines were reported down in a few area, including Fannie Road near Century. Cable TV lines were also reported down in the Century area.

Wind guest were up to 50 mph in the Molino area, and rain totals from about a half inch to near two and half inches were reported across the area.

Today’s forecast calls for a 30 percent chance of an afternoon thunderstorm, otherwise mostly cloudy and 92. There is no chance of rain in the forecast for Sunday or Monday, with daytime highs in the middle 80’s for the remainder of the Memorial Day weekend.
