Denise Chapman, Escambia County Reading Department Middle School Teacher on Special Assignment, visited Carver/Century K-8 Friday to congratulate the third grade students on their FCAT scores.

She brought “smiley face” balloons for each of the three teachers and students.

Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Taylor, and Mrs. Fountain were also awarded certificates of achievement from Ms. Chapman recognizing their success.

The most excitement came when she took a basket of candy around the room for each student to choose two pieces of their favorite sweets. Students were also encouraged to read this summer and to visit the library.

They were encouraged to continue their efforts for the FCAT as fourth graders next year. Throughout the school year, Ms. Chapman and other School District reading specialists visited classrooms to lend advice, strategies and support to the teachers.

Ms. Chapman stated, “By having a vision and then putting forth hard work to accomplish their reading goals, students of Carver/Century K-8 School are now on the path of becoming successful independent strategic readers.”
