Did Your Child Hear Obama’s Message In School?

September 7, 2009

When President Obama addressed the nation’s schoolchildren Tuesday, most students in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties were not listening — at least not yet.

Obama’s back to school address encouraged students to study hard and do their best in school. The U.S. Department of Education released teacher lesson plans to go along with the speech. That lesson plan originally called for students to write a paper about how they can “help the president”, but that part was removed after considerable public outcry — especially from Republicans — that the White House was trying to indoctrinate students into supporting his policies.

“It will not been shown in real time,” Escambia County Superintendent Malcolm Thomas said of the speech. “Teachers can view it and determine if they want to use it later as part of their curriculum.”

obama.jpgThe biggest reason the president’s speech was not viewed live in Escambia Schools, Thomas said, was not politics but logistics and timing. Streaming the live video to all the county’s schools over the Internet at the same time would have been a technical problem. At at 11 a.m Tuesday when the speech aired, thousands of students in the county were at lunch or in classes like P.E. and math where the speech was not a relevant part of the curriculum.

“We are not going to let this external event come in and interrupt our schools,” he said.

School district officials in Santa Rosa County have cited the same reasons for not showing the speech live.

“I don’t think the president ever intended that we stop everything we are doing to show it,” Thomas said. “But teachers can decide to use it as a resource depending on student age and abilities and the content of the speech.”

“The content of the speech is not time sensitive,” he said, “so does it really matter if we show it live or at a later date?”

Some parents  threatened to keep their children home from school Tuesday so they will not see the speech, a step that Thomas said was not necessary. In fact, parents that do not want their children to see the speech at a future date can send a note to school, he said. “Parents can express their concerns to their child’s principal or teachers.”

I was shocked when a teacher at Ernest Ward sent homework to the parents and the student. I refused to do it and told my son that he didn’t have to do it. Mr Thomas said that if the parent didn’t want there kids watching it or reading it the they didn’t have to. There should have not been any work on this for a grade!

I think that it is sad that wether you are Conservative or Liberal, Black or White, Obama Fan or not, that this is the way that we treat and talk to each other. There is something that can be said about every president that has been in office. George Bush 1 promised not to raise taxes and he did. Bill Clinton slept with an intern while in the Oval Office. George Bush 2 sent us to war with Iraq, that had nothing to do with September 11 but, we wre there because his father could get m\nothing accomplished when he went into the Gulf War. Obama just got into office 8 months ago and already people are trying to throw him under the bus. When he got to office, we were already in a deep dark hole of recession that we were put in by George Bush 2. He is trying to bring us out. Some things are probably going to be done wrong but, he needs to be given more than 8 months. George Bush 2 got 8 years and things got worse and worse.

Obama is not a Muslim. Stop saying things that you don’t know the truth about. George Bush was a alcholic from the rumors that were said about him. Is this true. Who knows but it is not for me to make these accusations.

What could possibly be wrong with children watching a speech by the President of a country that so many of you claim to love so much. All that was said was telling the children that they need to stay in school and get un education. I would think that this was something that most would want their children to hear.

Regardless of how you feel about the President the Office that he holds is due respect. We all need to stop the bickering and just listen. The hatered is not going to do any of us any good.

I guess it doesnt matter that Obama was raised by his mom who was white and his grandparents was white. So what card is he playing the white or black maybe he can play both. and tell the world he is sorry that people in his country cant tell the diffrence in other races thats why we assume everything is only back or white.

  4. Note on September 9th, 2009 4:29 pm

“South,” you are pretty definitive when you say ALL who disagree with our President’s motives are racist. I don’t believe that is true. But why is the white population always singled out to take sole ownership of racism? It’s not racist for the President to say a white policeman behaved “stupidly”? Everyone has to know he would not have commented had the policeman been black and the “victim” been white. Things will change when ALL races acknowledge responsibility. I have to agree with “Sick of.”

  5. Sick of the card being played on September 9th, 2009 1:31 pm

I’ll go with you on that one when you give up YOUR history month , exclusive university, beauty pageant, exclusive TV channels NAACP etc, etc, etc………. let me know when that happens.

  6. Will things in the South ever change? on September 9th, 2009 12:18 pm

The showing of this speech has nothing to do with religion or political parties but rather with color of skin. If it would have been a black republican president the results would have been the same, Frank and Malcom would have just came up with different excuses that would have been equally empty.

I would love to hear these guys explain why it is okay to factor time into the school year to watch movies like “Ice Age”, “Marley and Me”, “Shrek”, “All dogs go to heaven”, (which are just a few that my three children watched while at school last year), but not make time to listen to the President of the United States of America speak directly to them on the importance of staying in school and studying hard.

Please don’t kid yourselves into believing anything different, it was purely a race thing, but they are too cowardly to admit the truth. I hope the color-blind parents will join me in removing these cowards from the school system next election.

“It does no service to the cause of racial equality for white people to content themselves with judging themselves to be nonracist. Few people outside the clan or skinhead movements own up to all-out racism these days. White people must take the extra step. They must become anti-racist.”
    –Clarence Page, 1996

“Sometimes change comes not in the first round, but at the second, third or fourth. Change starts with one person questioning, challenging, speaking up and doing something to make a difference. We can each make a difference…because each of us is already part of the community where racism exists & thrives.”
    –Paul Kivel, 1993

“If the moderates of the white South fail to act now, history will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people.”
    –Martin Luther King, Jr., 1958

    Darryl,
I agree, the respect SHOULD be for the office. However, this respect is, and has been, lacking in our current climate for a number of years.

I have to disagree with you about this administration being tore down any worse than previous ones. Along with that, what positive aspects are there thus far?
When the Presidential election was going on, the mud slinging was going on full force. All the Bush haters came out in mass and trashed little Bush. As far as I have read, they are still blaming the current problems on him so it hasn’t stopped.

What about the problems with Clinton? That man got caught with his cigar and his intern. I’ve never been able to pick up and enjoy another cigar after that.

    What about Bush Sr.?

    What about Reagan?

    What about Carter?

    Ford?

    Nixon? (I dare you)

With the exception of a few (and your political point of view), the bad points vastly outweigh the good. So please save the “poor Obama, everybody is complaining about him and overlooking the good he’s done so far” line.
The simple fact is, the people have a voice, and the majority are now saying something is not right in Office.

Iraq was a stronghold for radical islamists that are intent on killing Americans. Thank God that our fighting men and women are over in that area exterminating those vermin. Obama’s views and voting record on gun control alone makes him so far left leaning that hes about to topple over. Keep drinking the kool-aid and keep that head stuck in the sand. Me…..I’m loving what hes doing because it will insure that a republican will get the Whitehouse in 12

    4. Kissed Socialist Hugo Chavez on the cheek.

I guess that somehow is better than Donald Rumsfeld shaking Saddam Hussein’s hand, or George W. Bush sending us to war against a country (Iraq) that had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with 9/11 … you’d rather see a president and a government trash our relationship with other countries than do something even remotely diplomatic like honor another head of state (respectfully bowing to the King of Saudi Arabia).

You right-wing extremists truly are delusional. Let me make a couple of points — slowly so you can understand:

First: President Obama is NOT a socialist. Actually, he’s not even a liberal. He leans slightly left of center, but when you’re looking at the world from the radical right as so many of you are, even Richard Nixon seems liberal.

Second: President Obama is NOT, nor has he ever been, a Muslim. He is a Christian. You know, if you look things up for yourselves rather than listening only to the drivel made up out of whole cloth by Fox News and Limbaugh and the like, you might actually learn something.

It doesn’t matter who you do or don’t believe in…if his speech is about the importance of kids continuing their educations, what is it going to hurt? Your kids go to school and have sex offenders as teachers (in some cases) and they sat in class and listened to them talk. Just the fact of him being President of the United States, is enough incentive for some kids to listen and actually “hear” what is being said…it will leave an impression in their young minds…might not be TODAY that they remember it, but one day down the road…and from what i know and have seen of this generation, all of them need someone, ANYONE to encourage them to stay in school….doesn’t matter if the name is Obama or Hatfield….kids of this generation expect everything to be handed to them, they don’t want to work for anything. They want cell phones, ipods, video games etcetcetc….thye need to turn all stuff off and go outside and do the things we used to do as kids! ENOUGH SAID, keep your kid at home and don’t let him/her be encouraged, he will reap what he sows…

You dont want a republican/conservative teacher to teach your children? Really?
Wow. I hope that was a joke.
As a conservative independant voter myself, I want my kids to be taught by great teachers. As long as my kids are getting a great education, I could care less what political beliefs they hold. One of the attributes of a great teacher is not to sway or bias thier own beliefs into the teaching curriculum. I hope they get exposure to many different beliefs and views. Our kids are pretty bright, they have already started to forment thier own beliefs and political views.

When I send my kids off in the morning to Ernest Ward Middle School, the wife and I KNOW they are recieving an excellent education. (Hat tip to Miss Perry and her Teachers).

The everyday people of this country need to unite and pull together, instead of choosing one political party or the other. It is time for ordinary people to take back our country from the ruling elite. The wealthy should not be the only ones running the country. We began a s country of the people, by the people and for the people. Parties pit one group against the other. For most of my life, I have believed that the government really was a friend of the people. I no longer think that. The government is of the elite, by the elite, for the elite. People need to read about Russia’s history, Germany’s history, China’s history. We are no longer free. It is an illusion. We belong to the government. Please don’t just react. Think about it. My son just asked me why it cost $80,000 to build a house himself that should have cost him $60,000. (uh…….permits, stamps, escrow, inspections, etc. etc. etc. Taxes? How much do we really pay?………check out your phone bill, cell phone bill, electric bill, gas bill, water bill, gasoline purchases, on and on and on………..in addition to social security and income and local tax. And, we came to America to escape taxation without representation? What? Do our reps vote our mind? How often? Do the laws they vote in affect them the same as us? People today just believe the media and Hollywood, and do not read and study for themselves. Spare time is spent in pleasure paid for forever with plastic cards. I think it’s past time to wake up and THINK! I think it just may be too little thought too late. God meant it when He said we reap what we sow. We have sown the wind, and are reaping the whirlwind. It is stirring up power now, in the Gulf of our Ignorance.

  19. Darryl on September 8th, 2009 8:24 am

Wow; A president is going to make a speech about kids needing to stay in school and get an education and this is the response?! Wow.

As to the post of him being “a liar” and apologizing all over the world…well…after the illegal and foreign policy disasters of Bush and Co. we have a lot to apologize for: invading a country under false pretenses and then authorizing torture. A real blow to our Constitution, our military law, our foreign treaty agreement (most of which we sponsored or promoted) and our very humanity. But we white wash over that and deride the current one for making a speech to tell children to stay in school and for actually having the intelligence to talk to foreign countries we have issues with first prior to saber rattling and shooting off at the mouth.

But then again fear and actions providing a false sense of security have made people willing to throw away their rights and humanity all through history, and after 9-11 people in this country were ready for a police state.

I am amazed at the masses who having given up and given over their intellectual capacities to the statist’s agenda. A message has no authenticity if the messanger has a hidden agenda within the message. The credibility of the current president certainly causes the one who uses his or her mind to conclude questionable motives. I agree that the message of ’stay in school’ and ‘ study hard’ are good but they bear no authority coming from a president who has broken more foundations of freedom in such a short period of time since the birth of our nation. This debate is not about the message but the one behind it.

I think that this is good that now we all know how everyone really feels. But at the same time I think that Escambia County should be ashamed to treat the president like this. Also when NAS has there christmas party and all the needy children go does that not mess up the school day for all children involved? Really I think the people at N.A.S should think about how much respect people are showing. I know that there are other people in our community that do for needy children maybe they should be helped. Escambia County it is not right to pick and choose what children can do what and maybe the other school that chooses not to be part of the party because not all children are helped should be able to let there needy kids go Im sure they would like to go to a great party like that.

I saw nothing in the speech refer to stem cell research. Perhaps I missed something. I agree with the things you said.

    Jamilah,

You said, ” It is far overdue that America’s citizens start becoming team players.”
That would be real nice. But, what if some on the team want to enslave and dictate to the rest of the team? Would you still want to be a team player?

For those who think this issue is a race issue, you should know that some have been reading and discovering much lately about some who came before Obama who did not have the country’s best interest at heart either. We have been deceived for a long time. If Obama is not the problem, himself, those who control him are. America is in more danger than ever before in her history. Read people. Read. Please.

Maybe everyone should also watch the video that accompanies the speech. If this isn’t an indoctrination scheme, I don’t know what is! This video has many good things in it, but there’s just enough socialism mixed in that I wouldn’t want any school-age, very impressionable children seeing it. It mentions pledging to support stem-cell research and pledging, and I quote, “to be a servant to the President.” I am not sorry to say that I only serve one Master and it isn’t Barack Obama. If you are offended, I apoligize. I believe in educating myself as to what is really behind hidden agendas. To do this you must read, watch TV news, with real cameras and sound, use the internet and any other source you can to provide you with the truth. As a Christian living in the United States of America founded on Godly principles, I continue to see the erosion of good morals, values, charactor and integrity . Everything listed before can be verified. We have had many presidents who were less than honest with the people of our country, but what we are facing now is the fleecing of America and leading to a New World Order. If you don’t understand, I urge you to read the Holy Bible and pray for wisdom, knowledge and understanding. “My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge” Hosea 4:6 May God Bless You!

Many of your points are incorrect; you really should do more research. Your points are more opinion than facts. I am just saying…

To everyone else who has a problem with the speech being given to students,

What are you doing to ensure that your children are performing to their full potential? Many students are taking their education as a joke, not realizing that an education is a luxury that many children in other countries cannot afford or are allowed to take advantage of. Also, if President Obama cannot be listened to due to logistics and timing, then why is time allowed for Armed Forces recruiters to come on the high school campuses? It is far overdue that America’s citizens start becoming team players. What Escambia County should be worried about is what it is going to take to motivate our youth to not succeed, but exceed the standards.

  37. DEM on September 7th, 2009 5:59 pm

  40. EMD on September 7th, 2009 4:33 pm

The president’s speech to the students was a wonderful speech. It is not the speech that is a problem. It is that the speech is so very good that many will trust the man who delivered it. And, I believe that this is a dangerous man that appears very likable and has a way with words. And, for those who think it’s a racist thing, you are very very wrong. I was born and raised in a racist era, but have not been one myself since I was three years old. I have been wishing a black person that was qualified and loved America and the freedoms she used to have, would be president one day. What a testimony to “Yes, you can/Yes we can!!!) However, I have many reasons to believe that this is not what’s happening here. And, one of the sad things about it, is that people will refuse to see the truth and the danger, because they will write off all opponents as “racist.” What a plan! What a bunch of uninformed sheep to the slaughter!!! As to Ne Ne’s remark, we are enjoined to pray for our leaders. President Obama is a human being that needs our prayers. We need one anothers also, but we all need those prayers that move us toward the perfect will of God, in all of our lives. Our fingers should point inward, and then outward, as we look not to the left or to the right.

Here’s some more Obama apologies, tell me when you start feeling nauseous:

    1. Apology to Europe: Speech in Strasbourg, France, April 3. “In America, there’s a failure to appreciate Europe‘s leading role in the world. Instead of celebrating your dynamic union and seeking to partn More..er with you to meet common challenges, there have been times where America has shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive.”

    2. Apology to the Muslim world: Interview with Al Arabiya, January 27. “My job to the Muslim world is to communicate that the Americans are not your enemy. We sometimes make mistakes. We have not been perfect.”

    3. Apology to the Summit of the Americas: Address to the Summit of the Americas, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, April 17. “While the United States has done much to promote peace and prosperity in the hemisphere, we have at times been disengaged, and at times we sought to dictate our terms.”

    4. Apology at the G-20 Summit of World Leaders: News conference in London, April 2. “I just think in a world that is as complex as it is, that it is very important for us to be able to forge partnerships as opposed to simply dictating solutions.”

    5. Apology for the War on Terror: Speech in Washington, D.C., May 21. “Unfortunately, faced with an uncertain threat, our government made a series of hasty decisions. I believe that many of these decisions were motivated by a sincere desire to protect the American people. But I also believe that all too often our government made decisions based on fear rather than foresight, that all too often our government trimmed facts and evidence to fit ideological predispositions.”

    6. Apology for Guantanamo in France: Speech in Strasbourg, France, April 3. “In dealing with terrorism, we can’t lose sight of our values and who we are. That’s why I closed Guantanamo. That’s why I made very clear that we will not engage in certain interrogation practices. I don’t believe that there is a contradiction between our security and our values. And when you start sacrificing your values, when you lose yourself, then over the long term that will make you less secure.”

    7. Apology for America before the Turkish Parliament: Speech to the Turkish Parliament, Ankara, Turkey, April 6. “The United States is still working through some of our own darker periods in our history. Facing the Washington Monument that I spoke of is a memorial of Abraham Lincoln, the man who freed those who were enslaved even after Washington led our Revolution. Our country still struggles with the legacies of slavery and segregation, the past treatment of Native Americans.”

    8. Apology for U.S. Policy toward the Americas: Editorial “Choosing a Better Future in the Americas,” April 16. “Too often, the United States has not pursued and sustained engagement with our neighbors. We have been too easily distracted by other priorities, and have failed to see that our own progress is tied directly to progress throughout the Americas.”

    9. Apology for the Mistakes of the CIA: Remarks to CIA employees at Langley, Va., April 29. “Don’t be discouraged that we have to acknowledge potentially we’ve made some mistakes.”

    10. Apology for Guantanamo: Speech in Washington, D.C., May 21. “There is also no question that Guantanamo set back the moral authority that is America’s strongest currency in the world.”

  43. Tired of hearing the crying on September 7th, 2009 3:42 pm

What’s wrong with the president encouraging our children. None of you have heard what he has to say and you want to judge him. You all want him to fail just to be right about him proves that you really don’t care about the welfare of this country at all. What you need to be doing is praying that he will get us out of this mess that the past presidents have gotten us into.

    John,
You sound like a hater to me. I’m not a Obama worshipper because I don’t worship no one but God , but you have come up with every reason to be a Obama hater to me. A person who don’t have respect for their own ancestors dont have respect for nothing.

He is our president now and if you don’t like it there are airplanes leaving THIS country everday.

  44. EMD on September 7th, 2009 3:41 pm

To all of you that think all is well with Obama and the USA,

If you love the America you’ve always known, you owe it to yourselves and your descendents to read “Masters of Deceit.” It is now out of print, but a book finder may be able to find you a copy. I found a hardback copy on ebay or Amazon. I don’t remember which. I can almost promise you, especially you who are under 50 or 60 years of age, that you will be “blown away,” if you read this book. You really need to be informed before you make any more comments. As for those over 50 or 60 that are putting the Obama praisers down…….think about it. If you were in their shoes………not knowing the things you know, couldn’t you possibly fall for some of his ploys and his charisma? They do not teach all of the things today that we learned in school, and these younger ones today did not live in the times in which we lived. Many now may not even read the book I mentioned, as it’s author, J. Edgar Hoover, has had his reputation smeared about “cross-dressing” and what not. I do not believe all that. Discrediting him probably had to happen, before what is happening now could take place. This book was written in the fifties. You may call him a prophet if you read this book, for he not only told us what……….he told us how. And, that in itself should frighten you, unless you are one of the “frighteners.” If you do not learn what is happening, even as I am writing this, please do not say in the days to come that, “Nobody told/warned me.” My own kids laughed in my face when I tried to tell/warn them.. But, they didn’t read the book. My own grandson voiced interest, and I loaned him my paperback about a year or so ago……….but, he has not read it either. Romance is more interesting to him right now. But neither he nor my own children can honestly say no one tried to warn them to learn the truth. I really hope you check this out. Yes, it wil take a little effort, and few in the age group I am addressing this to, can read very well ( from the few I’ve heard read). And, reading is not “fast food.” I do predict, though, that this book will hold your attention, even if you go to the index and only skip around within its pages. J. Edgar Hoover, the author, was the Director of the FBI, in the fifties. I really hope that at least some of you who cared enough to make comments here will get and read this book. If you do not, but keep commenting, you will one day be embarrassed, and very sorry.

    @NeNe
What hatred would that be exactly?
The hatred from the left during the Bush administration calling the great Dr. Condoleezza Rice and General Colin Powell “House Negroes”?
The hatred from the left demonizing GW Bush with photos depicting him as Hitler?
Or do you just want to toss out the Race Card to see if it sticks?
Nice try. Fact is NeNe, you wont respond or refute anything I said because you cannot.
The days of folks like you claiming racism is all but over. I have news for you, America has had many great Black leaders in this country before Obama. Problem was, they didnt fit into your political handouts-I’m a victim because of my skin color- ideology.
America voted a Black guy in as President. I surmise alot of White folk voted him in. Playing the race card wont help your argument. It’s weak and shows your lack of intellectual abilities.
I dont debate religion. So the rest of what you said affects me as much as a picture of a cat pushing a tractor out of a lake. Interesting yes, but what does it have to do with the topic? Oh, so you go to church? That’s nice.Spare me the pseudo self indignation and inner reflection nonsense. I have been there and done that, I even have a Tshirt saying so.
Obama is a conman, albeit a very good one.
Anyone who believes the Leftist socialist reasoning behind stealing from the rich to pay the poor has sadly drank way more Koolaid than they should have.

The Obama administration campaigned that his new Big Government would Mow your lawns, clip your toenails and put bandaids on your Booboos. The perfect nanny State that takes free will away from you and has his government do it for you. Again, that is NOT what government is for. Stupid or smart, I like to make my own decisions.
    I’m American. I’m free.
    Enjoy your government cheese.

  46. Norris Hall on September 7th, 2009 3:06 pm

I agree with the conservatives. We don’t want to have our children exposed to any message that will tell them
    1. to work hard,
    2. to overcome adversity and
    3. to stay in school.

That is against everything we stand for.

  47. NeNe on September 7th, 2009 3:04 pm

I wanted to write a speech to all of you that speak against the president. I can’t find it in my heart to do so because I will be acting like you. It’s a disgrace for you to carry on the way that you are. Do you teach your children hatred? . All I can say to you is may God have mercy on your souls! It’ sadden me to know that we live in a world of people as such and most of you . I can imagine most of you go to church every Sunday, teach Sunday school, sing in the choir, prayer meeting and bible study. Let me tell you this not any of that matter if your heart is not right…. Do a self evaluation on yourself and ask God to look at you. Ask him to clean you up and then you can work on someone else. Prayer changes things and prayer changes people … May God bless all of you!

  48. John on September 7th, 2009 1:14 pm

A brief overview of the situation is always valuable, so as a service to thos who still dont get it and to my friends here at North Escambia ,I now offer you a short history of Obamamania, sometimes referred to as Obama worship:
    Here we go….
First off, Obama ran for President of these United after never actually working an honest days wage unlike many of us. He was a community innercity organizer. What does that entail? Registering voters and setting up pick up basketball games for inner-city kids.Nice job if you can find it. Why? Because he became a millionaire doing this in a very short time frame.
Some will cloud the debate saying he was an adjunct law professor at Harvard.
Nice try, but incorrect. They will show you the dates of this title. Look a little closer and you will find that at the time,Obama was living in Chicago, which is a fairly long commute to Cambridge Massachusetts, dont you agree?. So what’s the skinny on all of that? Like most things with the Obama Dog and Pony Roadshow, it’s just smoke and Mirrors. All of these teaching jobs he had were Honorary positions. He never taught! The only thing we can take from the Obama Cult of Personality peoples rallying cry of “Hope and Change”, is the ‘Hope’ part of it….. Hope like hell nobody ever realizes he’s a fraud.

Never in the history of America has any President ever polarized the Nation as has Obama. His far Left Socialist leanings have bloated the Government full of so-called “Czars”. That list is shrinking as they get investigated and found to be racist and radical anti Government communist,by his own admission. .(Google Van Jones or Ron Bloom)
Obama was elected by a cult of personality. He was elected because many Americans are living proof that with a catchy saying, anyone in America can get elected.
So how did Obama make his millions? Easy. Same way Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton did it. They are a new breed of shakedown artists. It’s really a sweet crime. Find a big business operating within the purview of your community organizing area, threaten them that if they dont hire more minorities, dont pay your organization millions to help thier minorities, you will stage huge protests and boycotts with alot of angry people of that racial identity. That’s bad, but they kick it up a notch, they then threaten to tag you as racists if you tell them to jump in the lake. They did it to McDonalds. Scared the living daylights out of them until they folded. Now our happy hamburger company has a website dedicated to blacks only.

Hey waitaminute John the Investigator and fireman! How dare you say something like that! That’s not true, is it?
Follow this link and be shocked:
    http://www.365black.com/365black/index.jsp
You’ll notice that this website created by Mickey Dees is meant only for one segment of our American Society, further polarizing them into the old, “Us against them” race baiting and race card issue. 365 Black? Not sure what that entails, really. I think I’m Irish,Dutch,Slovak,Scottish,Welsh and a few others tossed in. Fact is I dont identify myself by any of them. I’m American. American with no hyphens. I could care less what my ancestors were, otherwise they wouldnt have ditched thier former countries for a trip to THIS Country!

I could go on and on, but then I risk boring all of you which I would not like.
If you want more, just ask. I’ll find a nice soapbox.
Sadly, some Americans wanted Hope and Change….When we got it we found that it smelled something awful!….. requiring ALL of us together in a huge effort to clean it up and flush it down the toilet.
Hope and Change…. You’ll eat it and like it, Or else!

(John is a former 23 year veteran Investigator firefighter, an avid Sports fan, internet debater, critic, writer and comic now living in North Escambia)

I am all for the schools showing the taped version of the speech at appropriate times, now that the content has been released. But SRC schools may want to watch it first and edit out if the POTUS says “God bless America” – he probably doesn’t have time for the contempt of court charges.

  51. T on September 7th, 2009 12:34 pm

I think that Obama is trying to brainwash our children like he has brainwashed all fellow Americans that voted for him. Pray for the safety over the minds and hearts of our children.

  52. Doglover on September 7th, 2009 12:29 pm

    Jack and Wild Bill,
You can’t judge all homeschool children the same. It depends on who is teaching them. Look at Dr. Moore’s kids. Every one of those kids were above average! But I also know some who can not make it in regular school with their age group. Same goes for public and private school. I know kids in both with above average IQ.

  53. Faith on September 7th, 2009 12:00 pm

I agree with “gopmom” and we need to get educated about Obama; past & present. His six months in office as President : 1. Offended the Queen of England .
    2. Bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia .
    3. Praised the Marxist Daniel Ortega.
    4. Kissed Socialist Hugo Chavez on the cheek.
    5. Endorsed the Socialist Evo Morales of Bolivia .
    6. Sided with Hugo Chavez and Communist Fidel Castro against Honduras .
    7. Announced we would meet with Iranians with no pre-conditions while they’re building their nuclear weapons.
    8. Gave away billions to AIG also without pre-conditions.
    9. Expanded the bailouts.
    10. Insulted everyone who has ever loved a Special Olympian.
    11. Doubled our national debt.
    12. Announced the termination of our new missile defense system the day after North Korea launched an ICBM.
    13. Released information on U.S. intelligence gathering despite urgings of his own CIA director and the prior four CIA directors.
    14. Accepted without comment that five of his cabinet members cheated on their taxes and two other nominees withdrew after they couldn’t take the heat.
    15. Appointed a Homeland Security Chief who identified military veterans and abortion opponents as “dangers to the nation.”
    16. Ordered that the word “terrorism” no longer be used and instead refers to such acts as “man made disasters.”
    17. Circled the globe to publicly apologize for America ’s world leadership.
    18. Told the Mexican president that the violence in their country was because of us.
    19. Politicized the census by moving it into the White House from the Department of Commerce.
    20. Appointed as Attorney General the man who orchestrated the forced removal and expulsion to Cuba of a 9-year-old whose mother died trying to bring him to freedom in the United States .
    21. Salutes as heroes three Navy SEALS who took down three terrorists who threatened one American life and the next day announces members of the Bush administration may stand trial for “torturing” three 9/11 terrorists by pouring water up their noses.
    22. Low altitude photo shoot of Air Force One over New York City that frightened thousands of New Yorkers.
    23. Sent his National Defense Advisor to Europe to assure them that the US will no longer treat Israel in a special manner and they might be on their own with the Muslims.
    24. Praised Jimmy Carter’s trip to Gaza where he sided with terrorist Hamas against Israel .
    25. Nationalized General Motors and Chrysler while turning shareholder control over to the unions and freezing out retired investors who owned their bonds. Committed unlimited taxpayer billions in the process.
    26. Passed a huge energy tax in the House that will make American industry even less competitive while costing homeowners thousands per year.
    27. Announced nationalized health care “reform” that will strip seniors of their Medicare, cut pay of physicians, increase taxes yet another $1 trillion, and put everyone on rationed care with government bureaucrats deciding who gets care and who doesn’t.

Bloomberg: Daschle says, “Health care reform will not be pain free. Seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them,” while former Colorado Governor Dick Lamm says seniors have “a duty to die.”

If this does not sufficiently raise your ire, just remember that the President, Senators and Congressmen have their own special gold plated health care plan which is guaranteed the remainder of their lives and they are not subject to this new law if they pass it.

Please use the power of the Internet to get this message out. Talk it up at the grassroots level. Deception ,lies and another agenda altogether from what he said during his campaign. Is this the “change” we want for our children and grandchildren? If anything tell them the truth!

  54. our family on September 7th, 2009 11:44 am

If you research the content of the prepared speech the president plans to give you will see a large portion of it deals with the question the president plans to ask the students. the question is “what can you as school children do to help your president”
well first school children do not have the legal rights granted to individuals of the legal age as described by the constitution.
second is the intent to have the students talk to their parents about the state of the nation?
I think it is a good idea to tape the speech and let teachers review it prior to showing students.

  55. ACLU4FREEDOM on September 7th, 2009 10:56 am

No one is saying that your child can’t pray in school. Your child has every right to pray. However, the teacher can not lead students or take part in pray with the students. Prayer has nothing to do with the issue at hand. Your argument is a complete red-herring. You are not arguing the facts. The fact is he is the president of the United States of America. He was elected by the majority of the people in a democratic election. We go all over the world spreading our democratic ideas and views by force. But now, when our President wants to talk to the children of the nation, as many other presidents have done, people are in an uproar. How dare the President of the United States of America tell the students to work hard, to stay in school, to do the best they can, etc… The eldest Bush spoke to the students of America in 1991 to stay in school and stay off drugs. Did anyone have a problem with that? No I doubt it. It was a good message. Anytime a person wants to tell the students of this country to stay in school and work hard is fine with me, no matter what their political views are. Everyone should agree on that.

  56. I'm scared on September 7th, 2009 10:54 am

The president scares me. He wants everyone to have access to medical care and he wants to speak to kids about the importance of education. It’s obvious he is a sicko. I miss the days of GW. He had his eye on the ball. If he wasn’t bombing Iraq, or hanging Saddam, he was torturing the truth out of those Muhammed loving, camel jockeys, or feeling up the PM of Germany.

    Bush was a real American.

  57. Jack on September 7th, 2009 10:30 am

The facts prove that homeschooled students do better in life than public educated kids. I wish that I could afford to have someone stay home and do this rather than have my kids in public school where they graduate with barely an 8th grade level education. Our public school system lags behind most of the world and you have the audacity to berate this mom! incredible.

  58. Wild Bill on September 7th, 2009 10:09 am

    Homeschoolmom,
You can only control their young minds for so long. Eventually they will see all that you have sheltered them from and then look out, because their young minds are going to soak in all that you despise. Just curious though, how do you plan on producing educated children when your own ramblings are so full of grammatical errors that we can barely understand what you write? I guess you are satisfied with mediocrity, most parents want better for their children than they have for themselves. I feel sorry for your kids! Poor little worms kept in the dark and fed garbage all day by someone barely qualified to turn on a computer. SAD!

  59. Libertarian on September 7th, 2009 9:48 am

If you need the president do do your job as a parent then keep em out and watch it with them. I personally dont need the U.S government to tell my kids to do well in school blah blah blah. Thats what we as parents should be doing. You would think that Obama would have more things to do with the country crumbling around him than to speak to kids that could care less what he has to say.

  60. gopmom on September 7th, 2009 9:33 am

Hmmm, lets see. The most polarizing partisan President ever has his Secretary of Education send a letter to school principals across the nation telling them POTUS will address the nation’s “schoochildren” and they should refer to the accompanying lesson plans whilst participating in this unprecedented event. And you have no issue with that because you just love the guy. Fine. That is your prerogative, just as it is mine to protest the participation of my child my private parochial school. (My school is not participating by the way. Responsible parents FTW.) Parents are the decision makers, followed by elected school boards and superintendents. The Secretary and the Prez attempted a complete usurpation of the power of parents across the nation and all the MSM and Libs can whine about is that we don’t want our children indoctrinated. Nice dodge but those of us who are paying attention fully understand that it is that usurpation of power and the ridiculous lesson plans that are the issue here. This is the missing link. No other President who has addressed the nation’s children – voluntarily, I might add – has had the arrogance and stupidity to provide a read about my magnificent but still unverified life story”and/or write about how you can help POTUS instruction.
Obama and his cronies completely overstepped on this one and they are the ones who should be lambasted for their mistake. You know full well that if W had made such a poor move, heads on the Left would have exploded. Anyone with any intellectual honesty would recognize this.

  61. Kevin Bethea on September 7th, 2009 9:26 am

I remember watching the Challenger blow up over and over again in school; in this district. Now my children can’t even watch the President of our nation encouraging our children to stay in school, this resistance is what has turned the whole thing political. My children will be at home on the 8th so they can see the speech. It better be an excused absence.

  62. Elizabeth on September 7th, 2009 9:20 am

  63. homeschool mom on September 7th, 2009 9:15 am

ohhh yeah…. we can still pray in our school

  64. Concerned Mom on September 7th, 2009 8:36 am

Personally, I think if my child cannot pray in school because someone may not believe in God, then they shouldn’t have to hear this speech because we do not believe in Obama!

  65. Century Woman on September 7th, 2009 8:28 am

What is the purpose of not showing the speech. This is not a political speech. It is a speech from the President telling the children to stay in school and to dothe best that they can do. Stop trying to make everything seem like it has something secret to it. As a parent I think that this would be something for the children to hear the President of the United States talking to them. This was done for Ronald Reagen and the First George Bush. Why not now?

  66. molino jim on September 7th, 2009 7:34 am

“That there’s a good decision. We sure don’t want our students to study hard and do well. (THAT’S WHAT A LOT OF PARENTS ARE SAYING) It’s a sad comment on all of us when we can not be open minded and see what he has to say. It can’t be worse than the other presidents. George the second is a good example.

  67. Harlan Parr on September 7th, 2009 7:25 am

I think its fine that the president offer words of encouragement to our children, that is as far as it should go.This president spends all of his time pushing his own personel agenda instead of agenda that will secure this nations roll in world leader ship. We need to start making money instead of spending money. We do this by bringing manufacturing back home, develope our own resources, this will fix the problem. Why is this so hard for govt. leaders to understand,or are they on a path of self distruction for our nation.Sitting in my chair watching,it sure seem that way. Hope I am wrong.

  68. Tarricka on September 7th, 2009 1:52 am

As a parent with 5 children in the Escambia School system I’m also embarassed how the school has choosen to disrespect our President. Like it or not, you have to respect the leader of the Country. I may not agree with some of the things he say but this is total disrespect. I have never seen the day where the speach that is directed to the children is disregarded by the School, I’ve never seen the day that president Bush was not allowed to address the school, and he put us in the poor economic situation were in. This is absurd. I can’t beleive it but I tell you this, I will not make the mistake of voting for the The SUPER INTENDENT OF ESCAMBIA COUNTY AGAIN! I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT I’M NOT THE ONLY PARENT THAT IS HIGHLY UPSET ABOUT THIS.
